Dive into exotic jungles of musical magic with L.A.'s own Dengue Fever! With the riveting vocals of Cambodian singer Chhlom Nimol, and the twangy '60s guitar & farfisa stomp of brothers Zac & Ethan Holtzman, this unique combo kicks up a tropical storm of surf, psych, Klezmer, and vintage Khmer pop that'll get you twisting to your nearest dancefloor. Snaky guitar lines, sinuous spy-jazz rhythms, and wailing sax build up and explode into fiery, unstoppable pop that thunders like hot lava down the side of a volcano. A weird, wild and irresistible fusion!
I'm a little late to the Dengue Fever party but it's great to be here. I don't know a ton about the band, but their take on what allmusic.com called "Cambodian-influenced psych/pop/surf" has left me eager to learn more. Cannibal Courtship is mostly a rock-and-roll album, but singer Chhom Nimol's sometimes English, sometimes khmer, but always enthralling vocals take you everywhere from punk to world music. A must hear. The vinyl comes with a free digital download. – Thomas Germain, Hollywood
