This Aussie electropop combo is whipping up quite a buzz for the manic intensity they bring to a well-trod genre of late -- ‘80s yacht-disco archaeology. But these guys set the bar higher than ever. Awash in cheap synths, jungle sound FX, funkless slap bass and woozy sax solos, this at first sounds like Level 42 and Frankie Goes to Hollywood battling for the affections of Antony (of the Johnsons) on ketamine. As you listen, you find it’s supremely well-done, detailed and true, laughing with the tackiness rather than at it.
