Always one to embrace collaborations with other brainy artists, Brian Eno this time decided to yield lyrical matters to poet Rick Holland (Story the Flowers) while he fills in the canvas with pushing, graceful ambience that teeters between episodic and epic. Holland’s spoken word delivery conveys words, while Eno’s synths, guitars, drums, vocal manipulations, and accents make larger projects of the meanings. The result: 15-tracks that are unmistakably Eno-centric in the way that Stanley Kubrick films were always conspicuously Kubrick’s regardless of thematics and plot. It’s as variegated and innovative as his 2010 album with Jon Hopkins and Leo Abrahams, Small Craft on a Milk Sea.
