Stephen McBean and Co. are beloved by stoners for their mastery of the '70s doom-rock dirge. Herein they take a more direct hard-rockin' approach, with big riffs and roaring vocals, still tempered by that fuzzy doom that always lurks overhead but much more accessible and fun than anything they've done yet. A nice marriage of mature songwriting and barrelling teenage no-future trash rock. May be the band’s tightest, most concentrated venture, but there's still plenty of raw rock energy at work on their new album. The heavy funkiness is tangible – it’s boogie/metal for the ages.
