Broken Bells (LP)
Broken Bells
Amoeba Review
03/09/2010
Whoa! Shins frontman James Mercer teams up with Gnarls Barkley super-producer Dangermouse for a dazzling set of bittersweet, anthemic jangle-pop powered by Mr. Mouse's trademark dance-funk beats. This hotly anticipated debut has caused the indie blogosphere to just about spontaneously combust, as the Bells seemingly combine everything that is great about both artists' previous projects into an unstoppable juggernaut of falsetto harmonies, giant strummy hooks, and lush production. Comparisons to the Smiths, Neutral Milk Hotel, and the Beta Band have flown fast and furious. Ask not for whom the Broken Bells toll: they toll for thee!
