APPY WALRUS DAY, EARTHLINGS!

Kiss someone handsome, eat something tastier than it is healthy, learn a new word that will impress your enemies, crank up the song that makes you feel you could conquer the world, wear the shirt you wear to get stares, call out sick for work or school or meetings or anything that will force you to suffer fools gladly, cure cancer in a way that looks dashing, invent a new flavor of joy, define an as-yet unrecognized sexuality, surprise a loved one with something so sweet and spontaneous it makes them a little suspicious of you, walk around with a balloon (or if you're like me and you hate balloons pop every one you see), get drunk with your best friend and exchange secrets you never thought you'd tell, scream for ice cream, do not follow your diet or exercise routine (unless you're one of those freaky people that likes to exercise), avoid apathy, crack yourself up, tickle your fancy until it pees.

Maria Bamford

No one can turn family dysfunction and manic depression into a joke better than Maria Bamford. Known for her left field brand of comedy that includes impersonating her mother and video skits with her two dogs on a couch, Bramford has definitely carved out her own niche. She's been featured in two Comedy Central Presents specials, made multiple late-night appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien and Jimmy Kimmel Live. You might also remember Maria from the popular Target commercials where she played an over achieving holiday shopper often referred to as, "the crazy Target lady." From Adult Swim shows to The Sarah Silverman Program to Variety's Top Ten Comics to watch, Maria has been one busy comedian.

BamfordBamford is currently on the road touring her latest release, Ask Me About My New God! (Comedy Central Records). The tour hits Cobb's Comedy Club in San Francisco October 22, followed by a stop in So Cal at Flappers Burbank November 15/16. Bamford is a must see, with her live show teetering on performance art and stand up. She's hilarious!

NCFF: Prelude

As the saying goes in my country, “Goody, goody gum-drops!” Tomorrow, the boyfriend and I are escaping the hum-drum, laid back sleepiness of Los Angeles for the glitz and glamor of Nevada City, California, my hometown.

This week is the 10th Annual Nevada City Film Festival, and it promises to be the biggest and most exciting yet.

Ten years ago, a group of local ne’er-do-wells (counting me amongst them) decided to throw a film festival at our tiny, beloved art-film theatre, The Magic Theatre. Originally we showed only submissions from the surrounding communities. Times have changed, and now the N.C.F.F. showcases films from around the world.

Boner.

I am especially excited to meet and hear from this year's special guests, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, best known for their disgusting, whimsical and lovable TV show, Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (A lot of people don’t know this, but the last word in the title rhymes with “robe” and is a dedication to me.)
