Kurt Braunohler Amoeba AuctionOn Saturday, September 7 we had the amazing and suave Kurt Braunohler return to host our auction at Amoeba Hollywood and sign copies of his new comedy album, How Do I Land? – out on Kill Rock Stars.

Don't tell me you don't know about comedian Kurt Braunholer?? He's been seen on BUNK (IFC), Chelsea Lately, Bob’s Burgers (FOX), Delocated (Adult Swim), Comedy Central Presents, Jon Benjamin Has a Van (Comedy Central), The Heart She Holler (Adult Swim), Assy McGee (Adult Swim) and Human Giant (MTV). He can also be heard on the radio on This American Life, telling a story which he is currently developing for television for HBO.

Kurt was recently named one of Variety’s “10 Comics To Watch.” He’s also featured in Time Out New York's list of 50 Funniest New Yorkers, named as a "Comic to Watch" by Comedy Central, the New York Comedy Festival and TimeOut NY, as well as “Best Male Stand-Up” by the ECNY and “Best Unscripted Host” by the New York Television Festival. The man is funny!!

People came out to bid on concert tickets, gift certificates, collectibles, a special Kill Rock Stars “Kurt Pack” and so much more. The store was abuzz, and the heated bidding wars drove the temperature even higher than the record-breaking Los Angeles heatwave. Kurt is a natural at making people laugh while they dig deep in their pockets. Plus, he was a smooth criminal when it came to sliding the bids up and up and up...

Who starts a Kickstarter campaign to raise money to tell a joke? The super hilarious Kurt Braunohler does! Braunohler asked fans and supporters to help him raise $4,000 so he could skywrite the sentence, "How do I land?" above Los Angeles.  What a genius way to have people be in on the joke! Not only did he rasie over 4k, but the video of the plane skywriting the message went viral. The real genius might be the fact that Braunohler's debut comedy album is titled, How Do I Land? and the cover is a photo of the skywriting joke. Who needs a publicity campaign with a stunt like that? Kudos to Kurt for finding a way to market an album while simultaneously having fans help him tell an awesome joke!

Join us at Amoeba Hollywood on Saturday, September 7th for our monthly charity auction hosted by Kurt Braunohler. This is one big special day! Not only will Kurt be hosting and celebrating his debut comedy album, but prcoeeds from the auction will benefit Free Arts For Abused Children - a volunteer organization that has brought arts programs to abused, neglected and homeless children for 30 years. But that's not all, to help commemorate what would have been singer/songwriter Elliott Smith's 44th birthday, Amoeba will be donating a portion of the proceeds from sales of any of Elliott Smith’s catalog (including digital) to Free Arts for Abused Children for the month of August. So, come out for a great cause, funny jokes and lots of good music!Elliot Smith benefit at Amoeba

Recap: March Charity Auction to Benefit Doctors Without Borders

Posted by Amoebite, March 4, 2013 12:00pm | Post a Comment

Doctors Without Borders logoOn Saturday, March 2 we had the hilarious Kurt Braunohler all the way from New York host our charity auction at Amoeba Hollywood and he did a fabulous job with a very tough crowd. He drove home our reason for being there ("Hey guys, it's for Doctors Without Borders...C'MON! Doctors who have no sense of their own boundaries! "). The crowd was enjoying the show, but it was tough to get them to bid. Sometimes it's like that. You never know what the temperature of the crowd will be! But Kurt did a great job and we ended up having a very successful auction.

The concert tickets went well, as always, and thanks so much to our neighbors at Trader Joe's and Brew Coffee, as well as Goldenvoice, for getting us such cool prizes.
