Carlene Carter Live at Amoeba

As the daughter of musical legends Carl Smith and June Carter Cash, stepdaughter of Johnny Cash and granddaughter of Maybelle Carter of the original Carter Family, Carlene Carter's roots in country music run deep. Last year she stopped by Amoeba Hollywood to pay tribute to her family heritage by performing songs off Carter Girl, her 2014 album featuring original songs as well as Carter Family classics. Produced by Don Was, the album saw special guests like Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson and Vince Gill, among others, sharing vocal duties with Carter.

Now that Carlene Carter has just set off on a lengthy spring/summer tour of North America with John Mellencamp, it's a great time to revisit her amazing performance here at Amoeba Hollywood. She starts off the set with "Little Black Train," a gospel song made popular by the Carter Family and charms the room with her childhood favorite song "Poor Old Heartsick Me." You can watch more from her set here.
