"I Come Alive"

Local artist (and, full disclosure, Amoeba employee) Tim Cohen's quite the prolific guy. Aside from fronting the Fresh & Onlys, Tim also has put out several solo records, including The Two Sides of Tim Cohen and Laugh Tracks.

Now, our own Gabriel Wheeler (yes, so much talent stews and brews within the walls and halls of Amoeba!) has directed Tim in a video for "I Come Alive," his track on the Secret Seven release of SF local sounds In A Cloud. The vid is full of dark Guy Maddin-esque flickering imagery and vampire women. Intriguing! You can check out more of his music here.

Did y'all know that back in the day there was a creek running through what we now call the Mission District of our beautiful San Francisco? And it was large enough to have been deemed "navigable" in old maps and have a bridge built over it? Yup, we live on top of one of the largest, most paved over former estuaries in the world. What once was is where the title of the Mission Creek Music Festival comes from -- and this yearly fest is happening right here and now in San Francisco!

Upcoming highlights include Little Wings playing at an art opening for Kyle Ranson at Mission hot spot Adobe Books this Friday, July 15th.

On Saturday, July 17th, McLaren Park in Diamond Heights will host hipsters galore at a free show! The lineup includes The Fresh and Onlys, Grass Widow, Miranda Lee Richards and Ganglians, among many others. The all-day event will also host DJs between sets, indie vendors and food carts!

And, also on the 17th but at the regular night shift time, the always-awesome Howlin' Rain, 3 Leafs and Sean Smith & The Present Moment will hit the El Rio!

Tim Cohen may be familiar to you because you recently heard about The Fresh & Onlys, are a fan of the multi-genred Black Fiction, or are familiar with one of his many mysterious side projects.

This newly released record, The Two Sides of Tim Cohen, however, is the first to bear his name. Written and recorded by Tim at his home during the interim between the unfortunate end of Black Fiction and the birth of The Fresh & Onlys, The Two Sides of Tim Cohen is perhaps his most personal work to date. An immensely creative psych-folk opus, it is full of heartfelt love songs, amazing visions, and musings on death and worms. Tim's songs are reminiscent of the catchy, self-produced pop songs of RAM-era Paul McCartney crossed with the skewed baritone bellows of Skip Spence and Michael Yonkers. The new album is recommended for fans of Ariel Pink, Panda Bear and Mayo Thompson. It has been released on Secret Seven/Empty Cellar Records.

The Two Sides of Tim Cohen is available at Amoeba now, on vinyl only, and includes an mp3 downloadable version with seven, yes, SEVEN bonus tracks! The release is limited to 250 copies, 100 of which are on white vinyl.
