Amoeba Music is curating the next Red Bull Sound Select show in Los Angeles, taking place at the Echoplex July 30.

Electronic pop acts Baths, Wrestlers and OOFJ will play the show, with L.A.-based Australian band Wunder Wunder hosting. The show is 18-and-over and is $3 with an RSVP and $12 without, though an RSVP doesn't guarantee you entrance, so plan to arrive early.

Baths is the project by SoCal native Will Wiesenfeld, who plays a mellowed-out blend of electronica and dream-pop with indie-rock and hip-hop influences poking through. He has released three albums under the Baths name, the most recent of which was 2013's critically acclaimed Obsidian. In 2014, he released the Ocean Death EP, featuring the title track as heard below:

50 Essential Albums Released in 2014

Aaron Detroit, Buyer at Amoeba Hollywood. I've worked in Hollywood for ten years, but started my time with Amoeba - way back in 1998 -  at the San Francisco store. Here is my extensive list of new essential listening, released in 2014. There is a wide range of genres and artists represented here because musical passion should not be static.

1. Swans - To Be Kind (Young God)
To Be Kind, Swans’ 3rd LP since their 2010 reformation (and 13th overall,) is an unlikely triumph after 2012’s seemingly unmatchable masterpiece, The Seer. Any trepidation one might have about the sprawling triple-LP’s intimidating track lengths should evaporate under it’s hypnotizing ebb-and-flow of mental blues, super-honed grooves, manic clatter and hushed passages; all of which are eventually crushed by monolithic waves of majesty. Nothing short of classic.

 2. Carla Bozulich - Boy (Constellation)
Boy is Carla Bozulich’s (of Ethyl Meatplow, Geraldine Fibbers and Evangelista-renown) 3rd solo affair, but in a lot of ways it feels like her first. Bozulich pours her famed, devastating whiskey-voice into a cocktail of funeral country, death blues and industrial noise that sticks to your guts. Carla herself refers to this LP as her “pop record,” and if that's a true description, we could sure use a whole lot more “pop” albums like Boy. Don’t overlook this one.

RSVP here to see Holy Fuck with James Supercave and Wunder Wunder May 22 at The Roxy for Red Bull’s next Sound Select show in Los Angeles. The show is only $3 with an RSVP.

Canadian electro-pop band Holy Fuck began as almost an experiment in sound—how can you make electronic music without actually using electronic instruments? Rather than laptops and sequencers, the band chose to use film equipment, toys and other non-instruments to achieve similar effects.

Fast forward 10 years, and they’re sharing stages with the likes of Skrillex at EDM festivals without losing an ounce of their outsider cool. The band’s next show sees them headlining the next Red Bull Sound Select show in Los Angeles May 22 at The Roxy with Aussie/L.A. psych-pop band Wunder Wunder (read an interview here) and L.A. indie pop band James Supercave. We caught up with the band (made up of Brian Borcherdt, Graham Walsh, Matt McQuaid and Matt Schulz) a week before the show.

wunder wunderIf there’s ever been a group that fused the sensibilities of two places they've come from, it’s Wunder Wunder, an Australian band that now live in L.A. The band hails from a place known for its awesome psych-pop bands, like Tame Impala and Jagwar Ma, to name a few, but they’ve got a distinctly easygoing, SoCal vibe, too, on songs like the glittering “Coatstline.”

Even though we’ve only heard two songs so far from the band, we’re already pumped about the prospects they offer. The duo’s debut album, Everything Infinite, is out July 15. We caught up with the band, made up of Aaron Shanahan and Benjamin Plant (who are also in electro-pop band Miami Horror) before their May 22 show with Holy Fuck and James Supercave at The Roxy May 22.
