Starcrash

If you've been thinking that you need more weird in your life, then I've got the next two Wednesdays planned Starcrashout for ya. You'll be spending a lot of time at a little theater at the edge of San Francisco's universe, the historic Balboa, which is just blocks from the beach in the fabulously foggy Outer Richmond district. A mysterious entity known only as Super Shangri-La Show (their Facebook page claims only, "Presenting Movies, Music & Magic Shows!") is presenting two screenings that are not to be missed.

On Wednesday, August 18th at 7:30pm, the super low-budget spectacular Starcarsh (aka The Adventures of Stella Star) graces the screen in all of its seedy glory. Released in 1978, this epic stars Marjoe Gortner, Caroline Munro, Christopher Plummer, David Hasselhoff, and Joe Spinell in roles of a lifetime. If you enjoy your space operas populated by robots and scantily clad sexy space amazons, then I'll see you there. Plus, there will be trivia and prizes, so start studying now!

Advanced tickets HERE. Facebook invite HERE.

On the following Wednesday, August 26th, the long-awaited Korla Panditdocumentary about the life of enigmatic Hollywood organist Korla Pandit shows at 7pm. Korla tells the amazing story of this spiritual seeker, television pioneer, and godfather of exotica music who took the world by storm in the 1950s. Who was this man of mystery? What were his origins? What's under the turban? Find out in Korla. One night only, folks! The filmmakers John Turner and Eric Christensen will be there for a live Q&A!
