The 45's Section at Amoeba Music Hollywood: Tour with Tuna

Posted by Billyjam, March 13, 2014 11:32am | Post a Comment

Below is the recent interview conducted with Tuna who works in the amazing 45's / 7" singles section at Amoeba Music Hollywood where you will find all genres of music on 45's in both new and used. There's a lot of original pressings of 7" singles dating back several decades as well as many brand new releases.

As Tuna noted, a lot of contemporary punk acts like to release their music first on cassette (another popular old format thought to be long gone), followed by a 45 single release, and then followed up with an LP.

When you visit Amoeba's 45's section be sure to look up on the wall for the cool displays of 45's, many or which are very rare releases. Now in its eight year, Record Store Day (coming up on April 19th), is when to expect to find a slew of new additions to the 45's section.

In addition to the 45's sections at each of the three Amoeba Music stores (Hollywood, Berkeley, and San Francisco), you will also find a wide variety of 45's on the Amoeba online store. New additions for this week alone include Swedish rockers The Hives' 2004 single "Walk Idiot Walk / Genepool Convulsions" new for just $4.98, which (like all the 45's from Amoeba.com) SHIPS FREE in U.S. Nice!

15th Annual Festival of Film Noir Kicks Off Friday at The Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood!

Posted by Mr. Chadwick, April 2, 2013 11:59pm | Post a Comment

This Friday, April 5th, kicks off the 15th Annual Festival Of Film Noir at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood.  Things get moving fast with a Cy Enfield double, Try And Get Me (aka The Sound Of Fury) and Hell Drivers. The Film Noir Foundation's newly restored print of Try And Get Me should be a stunner- not available on DVD, this is rare glimpse into Enfield's U.S. career which was prematurely derailed due to HUAC blacklisting bullshit.  Hell Drivers is a Rank Organization picture featuring Irish beauty Peggy Cummins, best known for her roles in Gun Crazy and Night Of The Demon.

Saturday brings a great pair of Hollywood damage tales in Sunset Boulevard and The Other Woman.  Needing no introduction, Sunset Boulevard's brilliance never seems to diminish, it's depiction of desperation and delusion seems applicable to every generation of former greats and their hangers on.    The Other Woman features the criminally under rated Cleo Moore as a scheming second string actress who gets involved in a blackmail plot that goes awry.  Those of you unfamiliar with Ms. Moore should check out the Bad Girls Of Film Noir, Vol 2 DVD set, we often have used copies for sale at the Hollywood Amoeba.

Talib Kweli & Res (Idle Warship) Are Genuine Music Fans as seen in new What's In My Bag?

What's In My Bag? with Res & Talib Kweli of Idle Warship (2012)

I love how both Res and Talib Kweli of super-duo Idle Warship are genuine music fans and true supporters of their fellow artists as proven in the above What's In My Bag? video recently shot at Amoeba Hollywood. In this latest What's In My Bag? segment Res (pronounced Reese), who confided that whenever Talib releases a new CD that she cops six copies of it, picked up such releases as Nikka Costa, Crosby Stills & Nash, and female vocalist Havana who she got turned onto it after hearing it been played over the Sunset Blvd. Amoeba sound system.

Meanwhile Talib Kweli, who was clearly quite pleased with his Beatles "Yellow Submarine" poster find, picked up a grip of music including some late 2011 releases he was catching up on - the latest releases from  his "friends" The Roots (Undun) and Common (The Dreamer/The Believer) stressing how it is important for him to support music since he asks others to do so of his music.  And you can support Idle Warship by buying their November release Habits of the Heart directly from Amoeba. And for more artists shares of their goodies found at Amoeba check out the numerous other videos in the series What's In My Bag?
