Steve Moore
Panther Moderns 12”
L.I.E.S

Massive new ep from Steve Moore which hits hard straight from the get go, as the title track Panther Moderns sees Moore moving into bleaker, mid-tempo musical territories with this brutally haunting, sparse, yet, funk ridden cut. Beyond Tykens Rift is the light at the end of the tunnel with its melodic and uplifting techno/new age leanings while the b-side's Ancient Shorelines I., which opens with heavy arpeggios and a plodding kick, creates desolate landscapes of still to be discovered planets as the song's dramatic narrative unfolds.

Ricardo Donoso
Assimilating The Shadow 2LP
Digitalis

In the time since Ricardo Donoso delivered his debut album Progress Chance, he's been pursuing his take on morning music even further. Informed by deep house, slowed-down trance and club influences, this new album unfolds to reveal elaborate sonic labyrinths that emerge out of the burning embers of dance music. Assimilating the Shadow has been designed to be consumed at sunrise, at the party's end. It assembles dark, carefully-considered sequences layered in a way that seems on first listen to be a fusion of opposites. Sacred geometry sets the stage for these intricate, emotional structures, illustrating tonal passages that appear divergent on first listen but which become coherent the further into the album you delve. It's an album that harks back to the beginnings of dance music but which somehow sidesteps the usual revivalist signatures that have become all too familiar in recent years, instead opting for a rhythmically complex variant that echoes early Jean Michel Jarre, Cluster, Manuel Göttsching and Speedy J but with a strange compositional quality quite unlike any of its influences. 2LP deluxe gatefold pressing limited to 500 copies. Mastered by James Plotkin and cut to vinyl by Lupo at Dubplates + Mastering, Berlin. Artwork by Lee Tindall.

Rides Again 12” (Norman Nodge / Jonsson/Alter rmx) 12"
Modular Cowboy

This inaugural release on Modular Cowboy features brand new material from Cheap and Deep (a.k.a. Jay Ahern) alongside two remixes of “Words, Breaths and Pauses,” a track originally released as a limited edition 12” via Berlin’s Hard Wax shop, just prior to Cheap and Deep’s live debut at Mutek 2010. The remixes come courtesy of Berghain resident DJ Norman Nodge as well as duo Jonsson/Alter (Henrik Jonsson and Joel Alter) from the Kontra-Musik label in Sweden. The release also marks Cheap and Deep’s return to the scene, with the new track “Beautiful,” a modern take on the Chicago acid house tradition, featuring vocals by Crissy Liu with additional production by Morgan Packard.

Shed
Killer LP
50 Weapons

Gatefold double LP version. The third full-length from Shed eschews gimmickry for serious signal noise, strong beat-patterns, and massive power in the bass area. Rich in variety on tracks like "Silent Witness," a massive groover, to "I Come by Night," a real big four-to-the-floor slammer, to nice and lovely melodic tracks like "Gas Up" or the album version of the pre-single track, "The Praetorian." Once again the album feels like one big piece. Every track accepts the subordinate role in this game, and all the tracks are hits. Made for the pimping PA in your car, for home listening (at your neighbor's cost) or also to enjoy with a good pair of headphones. Aimed to be more homogeneous, the album is first and foremost a true techno love story.
