Long time Florida punk rockers Against Me!are back with their 6th studio album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues (Total Treble Music). Much like classic punk records of yesterday, Transgender Dysphoria Blues is 10 tracks and clocks in at just 28 minutes and 43 seconds. Short and sweet! The album powerfully conveys the experience of dealing with gender dysphoria following the band's singer and co-founder, Laura Jane Grace, going public about transitioning into a transgender woman. Although the album's theme pushes Grace's personal story to the forefront, Transgender Dysphoria Blues is less autobiographical, and more musically universal, using catchy hooks to ease the listener into an otherwise heavy conversation about self identity. Still fast, still punk, and still very Against Me! Fans who are here for the music will not be let down.
Laura Jane Grace, James Bowman, Atom Williard, and Inge Johansson stopped by Amoeba Hollywood to do some shopping and our "What's In My Bag?" crew caught it all. The band kicks things off with Los Angeles, the seminal album by punk legends X. Laura Jane Grace picks up a DVD copy of Sleep Away Camp 3 and drummer Atom Willard follows that up with a copy of Bloc Party's recent Four album. From classic rock like The Doors to the newest album by Neko Case, Against Me! have a wide selection of picks and lots of fun stories about each one.
