The folks at Record Store Day have just released their list of titles that will be either exclusive for Black Friday (Nov. 29, the day after Thanksgiving) or will be an early release on that day. Features six tracks created for the Ender’s Game soundtrack. Flaming Lips soundtracking the novelization of a classic sci-fi novel? Sounds amazing. Plus, this version includes a track not found on the digital version of the release.
Joseph Mansfield – Beat Box: A Drum Machine Obsession (Black Friday Exclusive)
Not a vinyl release but a book by industry vet Joseph Mansfield features photos, interviews, information, classic advertisements and more on 75 different drum machines. Besides a 208-page hardcover book, it includes a download card for the sounds of drum machines featured in the book, a cassette tape with beats from drum machines in the book, a 7" vinyl record with the Roland TR-808 Beat to Beastie Boys' classic "Paul Revere" side A and the "Reverse Loop" version on side B, all bound in a limited edition leather slip case. Sounds like the perfect gift for any beatheads out there.
Nirvana – In Utero [2013 mix] (Black Friday Exclusive)
A new mix of Nirvana’s seminal In Utero approved by Krist Noveselic and Dave Grohl, remixed and remastered by original producer Steve Albini at Abbey Road Studios and released on clear vinyl, at 45 RPM, cut to copper plates. Gimme.
Roy Orbison - The Monument Vinyl Box (Black Friday Exclusive)
A box set featuring three classics from the years Orbison was on Monument Records: Lonely And Blue, Crying and In Dreams, with a 4th LP of his non-album singles released on the label, called Oh! Pretty Woman, a kind of imagined classic LP with songs such as the title track. Ahhhhhh.
The Upsetters – Super Ape (Black Friday Exclusive)
Lee “Scratch” Perry is the undisputed king of dub reggae, and this 1976 album credited to his studio band The Upsetters is a classic of the genre. If you’re a fan, this reissue comes in a double LP with a collectible etched image of the cover; if you’re new to dub, this reissue is a great place to start.
Harry Nilsson - Rarities Collection (Black Friday Exclusive)
Harry Nilsson rarities culled from the 17-CD box set of Nilsson’s RCA albums, including previously unreleased demos and radio spots, on a one-LP set, 180-gram and individually numbered.
