Dido "Girl Who Got Away" (acoustic version of the title track of the UK singer/
songwriter's new album Girl Who Got Away available from Amoeba March 26th)
Dido returns to the shelves of Amoeba Music tomorrow (March 26th) with her brand new album Girl Who Got Away on RCA Records. Available in both regular and Deluxe CD versions, Girl Who Got Away is the UK artist's fourth album to date and her first since 2008's Safe Trip Home. With production courtesy of her brother/frequent collaborator Rollo Armstrong - in addition to Brian Eno, Jeff Bhasker, Rick Nowels, and Greg Kurstin - the 11 track (17 on the DeLuxe version) new album of self-penned songs spans folk, ambient, dance, electro infused pop, and hip hop. In addition to such tracks as the lead single "No Freedom" (see video below) critics have been lauding praise upon the new album track "Let Us Move On" that features an engaging guest feature from hip-hopper of the moment Kendrick Lamar.
That collaboration with the American hip-hopper seems fitting since it was thanks to another American hip-hop artist, who also came to light thanks in part to Dr. Dre, that originally introduced US audiences to the British singer/songwriter. That was of course back in 2000 when Eminem (with permission from Dido) sampled the first verse off her song "Thank You" (off her debut album No Angel) on his hit single "Stan." Of the album's outstanding title track (see/hear acoustic version above) Dido, in a prepared statement, said, "It's one of my favorite songs on the record...but I guess it also sums up the last few years for me. Taking a step back from it all and going off to have the whole happy adventure of starting a family and making an album that I really am so proud of. And now I just can't wait for people to hear it." As of tomorrow March 26th you can buy Dido's new album Girl Who Got Away from Amoeba's three store locations and/or directly from the Amoeba online store in both regular CD and DeLuxe editions.
