A former Amoeba Home Grown artist, VUM is Jennifer Pearl (ex-Lion Fever, Lost Kids) and Christopher Badger (Grand Elegance). Directed and conceived by Michael Frost, who has been working with the duo since he fell in love with their first album Strange Attractor, the video features Pearl as a prism-beast radiating different images while Badger guides her through the LA canyons and into some trippy make out action (bodysuits and optical illusion included).

VUM's latest album, Night Sun, was recorded between LA and the South Pacific, where singer/guitarist Pearl was living for a time. The duo calls their unique sound "cinematic noir," capitalizing on Pearl's deep, powerful vocals, psychedelic guitars, dark wave synths, and thumping Suicide-esque drum machines. Intertwined throughout are field recordings from the jungle.
Henry Rollins has been playing VUM on his weekly KCRW show and had this to say about the band in a featured playlist for the LA Times:
“It’s a guy and a girl, and they make this really low-key minimal music. I get so much stuff sent to me and a lot of it is, ya know, pretty bad. But this band immediately jumped out. One of the great things about the radio show is that you get to help some really good bands, when they’re basically running a record company out of their living room. So I’ve played them almost weekly on the radio.”
You can see VUM perform live tonight at Beauty Is Pain in Silver Lake (650 N. Hoover Street).
