Panabrite
Soft Terminal LP
Digitalis

Panabrite is the project of Norm Chambers -- not a household name to most people, but for those who have been reveling in his music for the last few years, he is absolutely adored. He is also, we should add, the man responsible for one of the most-loved synth albums of the last few years, although that's a journey he took incognito and we just aren't at liberty to divulge that identity quite yet. Some will be quick to chalk Soft Terminal up as just another Kosmische record, but that's just the surface dressing. There is something deeper happening here: vivid, liquid dreams are sculpted into intricate fantasy landscapes, each layer revealing another aspect of Chambers' production prowess. The thing with Chambers, is that he has an innate ability to write richly-textured, melodic compositions that have as much in common with vintage electronic library music as they do with minimal synth-pop and '70s prog. Soft Terminal opens with "Rainbow Sequence" and "Index Of Gestures." The former remains understated, moving simply and slowly while pulling open the curtain on the rest of the album. With "Index Of Gestures," Chambers opens up the sequencers and lets them fly. Dizzying passages resonate and when the piece finally feels like it will lift off, he tightens the reins and dives straight into an underwater sequence. But that's only a small part of the story. "Janus" opens with finger-picked guitar arrangements augmented with synth chords and rising leads. The guitars return on "Sound Softly" while Chambers' ghostly, robotic vocals float away unscathed. On "Beta Axis Terminal," pointillist tones flutter in and out before sharp, sequenced chord progressions overtake them. As the piece continues to build, vocoder hovers above thickened basslines and you feel lost in a dystopian sci-fi novel. But ultimately, Chambers' pop sensibilities are most evident on the mini-masterpiece, "Camembert Symphony." Pushed along by the constant thrum of a drum machine, multiple melodies are interwoven, wrapping themselves tightly around you. Each soaring synth glues the song deeper into your mind before fading away into the sonic ether. Cut to vinyl at Dubplates & Mastering, Berlin. Limited to 500 copies only.

Monolake
Ghosts 2LP
Monolake

Gatefold 2LP version. Robert Henke is back with a new Monolake album entitled Ghosts. Dark and colorful, with haunting and deep excursions into magic worlds of sound and grooves, held together by a fragmentary story as part of the artwork that indicates a continuation of themes present on Silence (ML 025CD): precisely-crafted, earth-shaking beats, rough, dirty noises, wide, lush soundscapes and little sonic creatures inhabiting a fascinating planet in which a lot of things go badly wrong and nothing is taken for granted. Music that augments reality when listening to while commuting, music to get lost in when experienced loud in a club. There is nothing minimal in this music, it is bass-heavy and full of detail. Includes free CD version.

Barker & Baumecker
A Murder Of Crows 12"
Ostgut Ton

Andreas Baumecker (nd_baumecker) and Sam Barker (Voltek) deliver on their second 12" for Ostgut Ton. "A Murder Of Crows (Part 1)" is produced to burn the floor. The dark techno, deep moods and killer breaks lend themselves perfectly to feed the dance-hungry crowds and the far-away siren takes care of the shivers down your spine. "Murder Of Crows (Part 2)" takes the same rhythm track, removes the pumping bass of the A-side and shifts into a not-so-obvious, almost tripping groove.

Wolfgang Voigt
Ruckverzauberung 6 12"
Magazine

Rückverzauberung (trans. "Reverse Enchantment") is a label-travel-project of Wolfgang Voigt. Voigt's music has always been based on contradictory sound constructs, oscillating between harmony and atonality. But on the beat-free "Rückverzauberung 6.1" and "6.2," sounds and structures are (reversely) enchanted in such a bizarre/abstract manner, that it is difficult to draw a comparison to other pieces from Voigt's catalog. Due to his technique of deconstruction/reconstruction to the essential/substantial, sounds that are somewhat familiar seem completely new. Voigt calls this "Dedivination”

Loops Of Your Heart
And Never Ending Nights LP
Magazine

LP version with CD; first pressing limited to 500 copies, 180 gram pressing. Please allow us the pleasure of introducing Axel Willner's Loops Of Your Heart. Hailing from Sweden, the man behind this record alone needs no introduction, as he is already well-known in the electronic music scene for his project The Field. Loops Of Your Heart reflects Axel's experience in Germany, where during his lengthy stays, his mantra-like arpeggiators contributed to the first manifestation of the sound of Cologne Tape, a group that formed while he was staying there. You can also hear this on the much sought-after debut Render, which came out on Magazine in 2010. Only a foreshadowing of what was to about to come, Willner has been living in Berlin and letting his creativity go crazy. With an arsenal of special synthesizers and guitars, he has put together And Never Ending Nights. After touring worldwide with The Field for the last 10 years, this album is like coming home again. You can hear German children speaking outside his studio in Berlin (on the track "Neukölln") and it is not only the track titles which tell of things that have come to an end and or are about to happen. The old German musical tradition of letting yourself go (Holger Czukay, You, Anima, Cluster, you name it) is in the air, and Willner breathes it. His highly personal approach to music and composition leads to nothing less then a matchless album that embodies beginning anew.

John Tejada & Justin Maxwell
Our Gigantic Mistake 12”
Palette

John Tejada & Justin Maxwell are at it again with a new three-song EP. Following in the footsteps of their classic release "Mindbend," the duo continues their unique approach to collaboration using a hardware modular synth set-up. The title track "Our Gigantic Mistake" is a unique blend of 808 beats and screaming modular synth lines. The B-side's "Whoops (There It Is)" and "Where's The Cable?" explore a darker side of dark, acidic, late-night techno.

Gene Hunt
May The Funk Be With You 12"
Rush Hour

Gene Hunt takes the classic warehouse theme and turns it into an almost anthemic, synth laden Chicago jack release. Theo does it UGLY on the flip... BIG TIP! The 'May The Funk Be With You' white label gets a full release. Gene Hunt takes a classic warehouse theme and turns it into an almost anthemic, synth laden Chicago jack release. Easily his best release in years! His Chicago buddy Theo Parrish turns it into a hypnotic eight minute long gospel-techno-jazz work out that just sticks... and keeps getting better with every listen. Addictive stuff!

Conforce
24 EP - GESLOTEN CIRKEL RMX 12”
Clone Basement

After Conforce's tight album release on Delsin and other concept projects he did he/we went wild with this one and selected some tracks we just want to play out loud in a club from vinyl (incl. a killer remix by Gesloten Cirkel for the title track). At first sight these tracks dont have much in common... and probably still not for the second listen, but we didnt really bother for this one. It will be a standard in our dj box for the coming months with 4 tracks that all have a bit of a different groove and a different mood. Grain, Be There At Night, 24 and 24 remixed by Gesloten Cirkel. This is probably as versatile as a Clone Basement release can get.
