And the winner is......Too $hort in the ongoing beef / rap battle between Too $hort and Messy Marv who, as instigator, is indeed messy - not to mention foolish to take on the respected "Godfather of Bay Area rap." That's my personal opinion but already it seems that most other Bay rap fans are similarly taking the side of $hort in this seemingly mean spirited & uncalled for attack by Marv - an undoubtedly talented rapper but one known for starting beefs with others.  This battle (essentially an attack) began recently on Twitter by Marv but $hort did not take the bait and respond, at least initially. Soon after the beef escalated from online to the studio where Messy Marv., a couple of weeks ago, recorded "Class of 84 (Fuck Too $hort)" in which his main gripes with  Too $hort seem to be that he was not born in the Bay, that he has not helped other artists enough to Marv's liking, and that he is "old." Note that at thirty something (his self-penned bio says he's 31 but some say he's closer to 40 than 30) Marv is not exactly a young cat himself in this rap game.

                              


Then  in response, in the past week, $hort decided to break his silence and respond to Marv's insults. This he did by firing back with his "Where You At?" track with put-down lines like "We in the Bay. You on Twitter and Facebook."  In fact even before $hort recorded his response track Fillmore rapper JT The Bigga Figga took aim at Messy Marv with "Take 1 (Messy Marv diss)" in which he calls out Marv for claiming the Fillmore when he wasn't born or raised there (but yet makes an issue of Too $hort been born in LA) and disses Marv, calling him a coke head (another thing he accuses $hort of being) and raps lines like, "[you] calling $hort the sucker but we all know you the hoe." Additionally in just the past couple of days JT joined forces with Too $hort himself and Mistah F.A.B. (another artist who's had beef with Messy Marv) for the track "Okay (Messy Marv Diss 2011)" which is also below to hear.

So is this battle over? If it was up to Too $hort, probably so but not if it is left to Messy Marv who has a track record of stirring up unnecessary shit with other artists (including the notorious one with San Quinn who is his cousin) and then keeping it going, So he will likely not let this die out quietly. The results should be entertaining for the rest of us since Too $hort who clearly has an upper hand, in an interview earlier this week with AllHipHop.com, announced that he has an arsenal of approx 20 more Messy Marv diss songs ready to fire off.  And most of them, Short says, are rhymes offered to him by folks like JT, "these dudes that hate him and half of them are Fillmore cats." Apparently a lot of Marv's dirty laundry will be aired should these get out.  Stay tuned!
