There's a reason why so many viral videos feature cats and dogs. People love their pets and can relate to videos featuring animals that remind them of their feline or canine buddies. And this is the reason, I believe, that's fueled the phenomenal popularity of the Swedish House Mafia's latest music video for their pop-dance track "Save The World" which, since it was uploaded just twelve days ago (May 19th), has racked up an astonishing nine plus million YouTube views. The engaging video for the average song stars a cast of hero dogs of varying breeds who race to defend the attacked humans (save the world) as seen in the clip above. After watching this video I started thinking of all the other cool music videos starring dogs and have compiled a selection of them here including Atmosphere's "Just For Show" from the Rhymesayers act;s recently released album The Family Sign and OK Go's ever popular "White Knuckles" video which has tallied over 10 million views since it was uploaded on YouTube last September. Also, below are
such dog themed classics as Snoop Doggy Dogg's Dr Dre produced "Who Am I? (What's My Name?)" in which the Dogg famously morphs into a dog (impressive in 1993), Baha Men's one hit wonder from eleven years ago "Who Let The Dogs Out," and Sublime's "What I Got."Also included is the Pleix Films produced video, featuring dogs flying through the air in slo-mo, for French electronic artist Vitalic's track "Poney Part I" from his 2001 Poney EP and a recent clip (technically a funny promo video rather than a music video) from DJ Reflex both dissing the state of DJing today and promoting the supposed skills of his canine buddy Tumbles. Note that since George Clinton's "Atomic Dog" video features superimposed animated dogs and no live canines it is not included here. Feel free, in the comments below, to suggest any dog starring music videos that you feel should have been included. And next week will be another Amoebadog blog. And to check out the first three Amoebadog blogs, which focused on the canine pals of various Amoebites, click Part I, Part II, and Part III. hey "Top 10" thanks so much for reading the Amoeblog and for your good suggestions. Reason why I didn't include that cool Weezer video is that the dogs aren't really 'starring' in the video (just a brief cameo in the middle for few seconds and at the very end).
I think the popularity is deeper than just people who love their pets and can relate. Or at least less direct. In the Atmosphere video, it seems the aim is to get you to identify with the dog as if the dog were human. In fact it's even easier to sympathise with the dog's emotions & experiences, because the dog doesn't have human flaws. He's 100% cute & innocent, and a pure victim of everyone around him. If you had a human actor playing that part in the video, it would open up the door for "he probably deserved that treatment", or "look at the way she dresses" type of thoughts.

I bet if this was structured as the top 10 music videos featuring dogs... it would get a lot more hits...
