Congresswoman Donna Edwards: "A Lesson for My Republican Colleagues c/o the White Stripes"
The White Stripes may have broken up but Meg & Jack's music will never die, especially with others constantly covering it. The latest -- and most unlikely, but most excellently utilized -- cover version of one of the Stripes' songs comes courtesy of Maryland Democrat Congresswoman Donna Edwards, who did a spoken word cover of "Effect and Cause" at an address this week on the House Floor. She directed the lyrics at Republicans when discussing the effect a government shut down would have on seniors, servicemen and women, and children. She even gave a shout out to the makers of the song after quoting it. Of course, it is only a matter of time before someone adds a beat and other effects to the Congresswoman's acapella version or does a mash-up of Edwards with the Stripes and the onslaught of YouTube remixes begins. Below a live version by the band of their song on BBC TV's Later On With Jools Holland show.
