Martin Luther King Jr.
Over the past few decades Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s speeches have been exhaustively sampled -- sometimes in their entirety -- by countless artists. Artists seem drawn to them both because of their content and the fact that MLK was such a great orator who spoke in perfect rhythm; he is ideal for sampling over beats. In honor of MLK Day, below are a few examples of songs that have sampled, to varying degrees, MLK's famous "I Have A Dream" speech.

These include Common's "I Have A Dream (feat. Will I Am)" from the Freedom Writers movie soundtrack, underground rapper Flocabulary's "Let Freedom Ring (featuring Trajik)," and house music legend Larry Heard as Mr Fingers and his track "Can You Feel It (Martin Luther King remix)." Look for the various Martin Luther King, Jr. speech records and CDs in the spoken word sections at Amoeba Music and join Amoeba in celebrating Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Los Angeles and the Bay Area.
