Yesterday was an orange day in San Francisco, a day worth putting responsibilities aside in order to get down there and be a part of it. Amongst fans who had cheered the Giants to their World Series victory in Monday night, fans who cheered the Giants through the post season, fans who had rallied the 2010 "misfits" team when they were playing to win, fans who chanted their names when they were playing like an "unbelievable" machine, fans who cheered our homeboys -- including a rookie named, of all names, Buster -- when they played like fools and lifelong fans who have been waiting for as long as they can remember to savor the sweetness of a 56-years-in-the-making world championship, I reveled in yesterday's parade and subsequent celebration knowing that the memory of it will bring smiles to faces in the city for a long time to come.

Donning a shirt I bought during the 2002 season (a #5 Tsuyoshi Shinjo shirt, the center fielder who hit the first Major League homer I ever witnessed in person at the then still new Giants ballpark and a player who went from "one to watch" to "hard to watch" in the span of just a few months) and hadn't worn or washed since game seven of that wretched "Rally Monkey" series, I headed out for the beginning of the parade route (four blocks from my Chinatown roost) to cheer everyone on our home team through the streets of the Financial District, only to make the journey across town to meet up with the frenzied masses again at parade's end in front of City Hall. Despite the fact that it was an unusually hot day in San Francisco, with hardly a breeze to speak of, my old Giants tee never felt so fresh or so clean (clean).
For those who couldn't make it out to receive our Giants in the style of that massive orange & black to-do that went down yesterday, I have collected some choice shots here in an attempt to highlight the overall glory of the event (like Lou Seal, shown left, displaying his new, mascot-sized hardware). Enjoy!

Bruce Bochy rolls with the trophy...

So much confetti in the air it was like a longtime dream come true, the biggest party I've ever been to.

A sea of orange as seen from above.

One of this year's most popular Halloween costumes: the "beard" Brian Wilson (though I also saw my fair share of Timmys trick-or-treating on San Francisco's Belvedere Street this year. One of the houses even strung a bed sheet between trees in front of their house and projected game four onto it so that none of the trick or treat'rs would miss out).

Fear the real deal: Brian Wilson (and beard) walks the route (I guess those motorized cable cars must be as restrictive as they are, in a way, laughable).

Timmy! My guess is that Mr. Lincecum received the most wedding proposals yesterday.

Fans, fans, everywhere! Piled on top of bus shelters...

...partying on fire escapes...

...and on top of buses like these Buster Posey girls!

Of course, the usual San Francisco types got in on the action as well.

Aubrey Huff and his "rally thong" -- reminds me of what many residents and frequent visitors of the Castro were saying Monday night: "This is probably the only time you'll see every bar in this neighborhood tune their TVs to a sporting event."

Even the SFPD horses were outfitted with Giants caps...

...with detailed hindquarters too!

Mayor Gavin Newsom was (and probably still is) en fuego!

UUUUUUUUU-ribe: My vote for best Giant smile!

Journey frontman Steve Perry also got in on the parade (as seen hangin' off the front end of the "Medical and Training Staff" motorized cable car. So what if "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" is the "official" Giants song; if you really think about it, "Lights" really has been put to good, gumption-raising use this season. Personally I've really stuck with Die Antwoord's "Jealousy" -- to each their own).

Fresh ink! Super fans: do you!

The scene at City Hall and that unforgettable sky!

Fans cheering Giants MVP Edgar Renteria at close range: yikes!

Huff doing what he called his "Zoolander impression" in revealing (for, like, the millionth time yesterday) his "rally thong."

Then there were the signs like the fancy checklist above,

the Texas jabs...

...and then there's the "Thank You," which, in the end, is my favorite. Congratulations and thanks again, Giants! See you next year!
