The Grindhouse Film Festival pays tribute to exploitation film legend and good friend Don Edmonds, who passed away at age 73 on May 30th. We'll be celebrating his life and career, a career that took him from guest appearances on shows like "The Munsters" and "Green Acres" to co-starring roles in GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN and BEACH BALL before he turned to directing in the 1970's with films like TENDER LOVING CARE, WILD HONEY, TERROR ON TOUR and the first two ILSA films. In addition to the huge impact he had on the exploitation film world, Don also worked as a producer on hit films like SHORT CIRCUIT, 8 MILLION WAYS TO DIE and TRUE ROMANCE.

Beautiful Archival Print of Fellini's Masterpiece

La dolce vita (1960)

Federico Fellini Golden Palm Award Winner Cannes Film Festival

Best Costume Academy Award Winner plus nominated for three more Oscars, including best director

With its shimmering, beguilingly familiar Nino Rota score, Otello Martelli's ravishingly lighted black-and-white cinematography and its endless processions of the foolish, the grotesque, the jaded and the merely young and beautiful, "La Dolce Vita" is truly unforgettable. - Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times

Wednesday & Thursday July 15 & 16

The Wiz in tribute to Michael Jackson

The Wiz (1978)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0078504/
dir. Sidney Lumet, starring Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Nipsey Russell, Ted Ross, Mabel King, Lena Horne, Richard Pryor
7:30, Watch The Trailer!

Lumet adopts a bravely vacillating tone, alternating between tear-jerking schmaltz and smart-ass humour; both work... vast, brilliant sets by Tony Walton, a couple of well-staged show-stoppers ('Everybody Rejoice' in the Wicked Witch's sweat-shop, and 'Emerald City Ballet'), Michael Jackson (the Scarecrow), Richard Pryor (The Wiz), and Diana Ross who, as Dorothy, is just gorgeous. - Time Out Film Guide

Return To Oz (1985)
http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0089908/
dir. Walter Murch, starring Fairuza Balk, Nicol Williamson,
Jean Marsh, Piper Laurie, Matt Clark
10:00, Watch The Trailer!

The sole directing credit for legendary sound designer Walter Murch (THX 1138, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, etc.)

Murch captures brilliantly the helter-skelter fearsomeness of Oz with a kind of visual flexibility that more seasoned directors probably envied-the effects are rendered with a catch-all Rube Goldberg playfulness, and the dark undercurrent is far more in tune with L. Frank Baum's original vision of the dangers within the Emerald City - Dennis Cozzalio, Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule
