Love is in the Air

Once upon a time, in a far away land called San Francisco, a lucky lady said “YES!”

On the first day of spring here at Amoeba Music, love was in the air.

Almost 9 years ago a young man from Southern California made the big move up to San Francisco and was ready to meet new people and start a new chapter of his life. Shortly after he moved to the city he stumbled into Amoeba Music in the famous Haight Ashbury District and was thrilled that he had found such a great record store where he could spend his days rummaging through the used vinyl. In the spring of 2001 while chatting on AOL he started talking to a beautiful young girl also living in San Francisco.  After talking for a while on the internet and discovering that they actually had the same passion and taste in music, they decided to meet face to face at Amoeba. After that, their friendship grew and by the 4th of July they were officially a couple.

Through the last 8 years Timothy Chung and Joyce Cho’s love for each other has grown, and their taste in music and love for Amoeba has grown right along with them.

Timothy contacted our San Francisco Promotions team in January and said that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend on stage during one of our Friday night in-house DJ sets that we like to call Mandala, while his long time friend DJ Dion Decibels (well known Bay Area DJ) spun their special song. He said that Amoeba would be the perfect place to propose to Joyce since they had officially met at our store those 8 years ago.

Nervous and waiting for the right moment, Timothy pretended to be working hard and did everything he could to get Joyce on stage to “take photos” of DJ Dion Decibels. When she was finally on stage, and their special song began to play, Timothy went for it! He took Joyce by surprise and with microphone in hand, he proposed over the store PA! Shocked yet excited, Joyce said “Yes,” and they rode off into the sunset, or at least onto Haight Street for a celebratory dinner with friends.

Timothy is an Audio Engineer and works for a local San Francisco company (Gershoni Sound). He makes beats under the name seOUL avengeR that you can check out here and here. Joyce is an architect and is considering furthering her education. We wish them all the best!
