The Bank Job

The Grove is the WORST.  I can't believe it's owned by the same company as the Arclight.

Blech.

The assholes below were sitting in the row in front of us. They didn't want to be "gay" so they left an empty seat between them. They didn't want to "talk" over that empty seat so they fucking TEXT MESSAGED each other throughout the whole movie. I guess their texts were hilarious because they kept cracking up. I thought they left half way through the film after I yelled at them for the millionth time. But no, they came back. They probably went to complain that I was harassing them. Oh well.
After the show they didn't want me to take photos of them. I only wish I could have gotten better snaps.

As you can see below, validated parking should be $2 for the first four hours. Somebody forgot to let the the theater know it's actually $3. It was a treat I found out when exiting the parking structure. Unfortunately, the photographic evidence below did not help us get out of paying the extra dollar.

A new low for the blog! Wow. What a pile of crap. Nice and negative, has no relevance to music or even MOVIES. Way to go, dude. I'm really glad my kids read this too. Neat!

You know, I like to leave a seat between myself and whomever I'm with, but no one I know ever goes for it for fear of appearing anti-homosexual. What's with all the anti-anti-gay bigotry these days? Whatever happened to misanthropy and the fear of any sort of intimacy? Those are my issues, not appearing gay. Why, I like Peggy Lee and 50s bubblegum music more than the average bear and certainly more so than Job. Plus, I like to cross my legs without having to knock my foot into the person next to me (and I cross them in the effeminate/effete/European fashion, I might add). No, appearing gay isn't a problem, that's why I wear cowboy boots.

I liked BANK JOB, particularly the part where for no good reason other than its in his contract, supposed car dealer and family man, Jason Statham, goes all TRANSPORTER on that guy. Now, that's probably an instance of not wanting to appear too "sissy." Anyway, I find your negativism heartwarming.

it is relevant and i'm glad others are tired of this behavior and speaking up about it (even if it is on a blog that your kids read). i'm sick of paying $14 to "enjoy a quality film going experience" while some jerk is in front of me talking/ texting on his cellphone or talking to his buddies the entire time. but then i guess you condone this kind of behavior and are ok if your kids grow up and ruin movies for other people. stay home and watch the dvd and talk all you want if you don't like it, but don't ruin it for the rest of us.

well, did you like the movie?

i'm with scott on the relevance of this posting... phil's comment on the current movie going experience is the EXACT reason i will be downloading "THE RUINS" this weekend instead of going to see it in the theater. thanks hollywood. you saved me $15!!

oh.... i do have to comment on your "taking pictures of strangers". that has actually become one of my new favorite things to do. its very frustrating for people to have their picture taken. get rude service? take their picture. it will send some people into a berzerker rage which unfortunately i find to be extremely funny. when i was stuck in the phoenix airport for 3 days over the holidays, thanks to the wonderful US AIRWAYS customer service, i made sure to get a picture of every single employee who didn't help me. welcome to web 2.0 America. you're going into my blog whether you like it or not.

I fucking hate The Grove! It looks like Universal Citywalk vomited, and it's vomit built The Grove. 10.00 for popcorn and you have to put that toxic, shitty, butter flavored oil goo on it yourself. A big fuck you to whoever came up with that concept.

The last movie I saw at the Grove was BIG FISH. I'm always amused by guys leaving empty seats between them, especially when there's barely anyone at the theatre to begin with. Why go to a theatre to text someone, aren't you there to see a movie? For the price I'd pay attention more.

When you're using the term Gay in a pejorative sense, the little quote marks don't always convey to a 16 year old that you think you are 'cool, sarcastic and úber-liberal', ok? I like to come here for new music, old music I miss, things I never heard of, and some movie recommends. Not angry vulgarity, angry confrontations with pictures of it all and - above all, now I see Amoeba staff members talking about downloading instead of paying for stuff, and I have to wonder if the owners even bother to read this or if it's a bunch of staff gone amok. (It's really obvious when you always comment to each other like you do, fellas.) Considering it has nothing to do with anything Amoeba-related, it's all pretty messed up. Just so everyone can sleep at night: my kids are 16 and 17 and silence their cellphones at movies. But thanks for the parenting help.

sure i admit to downloading things. do i have access to the complete matthew barney's cremaster 1-6 at my local library? can i purchase a copy for less than $30,000? has there been a screening of it near me in the past 4 years? should art only be available to those who can afford it?

the answer to all of these IMO is no. luckily, i can download a copy. and i, like most kids can do so guilt free.

i loved the thrill of the hunt just like everyone else. i remember dropping down $100 for the planet of the apes cartoon on VHS to some bootlegger at a comic book convention years ago. would i have purchased that if it was available at the time? of course. but it wasn't. because these companies have failed to provide access to their titles, the kids have "learned" to find what they want in other ways.

the movie starts promptly at 7, be sure to be in your seat for 20 minutes of diet coke and car commercials. phil's post highlights the "broken" theater system. overpriced and a dismal movie going experience that drives away consumers. the technology is there to serve me up a film at home on the day of its release, so why not give people that option.  would i  pay  $2 to watch "the ruins"  at home  rather than wait 10 hours for this to download? Sure.  do i have that option? nope. that title isn't available for purchase online.

unfortunately this post has everything to do with amoeba. its about record stores & theaters and why they are dying. when's the last time you've been to a VIRGIN or a CINEMARK THEATRE? service sucks. selection sucks. prices suck.  your failure at recognizing the relevance of this post says to me that you deserve a high paying job in the recording industry.

Check out this article. 95% of teenagers are illegally downloading music.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2008/apr/07/digitalmusic.drm

here's a few theaters/record/book stores that i do frequent because they are able to give a selection of titles that i cannot find elsewhere (including online), with a reasonable price, AND a satisfactory shopping experience. Amoeba. New Beverly. Cinefamily. Meltdown. Wacko. Hennessey + Ingalls.

and yes. i am still looking for that copy of THE DAY THE CLOWN CRIED. if jerry lewis wont' sell me a copy, i'll gladly pay a bootlegger or download for free. whichever i can find first.
